Minister for Forest, Ecology, and Environment and Bidar district in-charge Minister Eshwar B. Khandre directed officials to take all precautionary measures to ensure that the district does not face any scarcity of drinking water during the summer.
Chairing a review meeting at the Bidar Zilla Panchayat office on Saturday (March 14) to assess preparedness for tackling water scarcity, Mr. Khandre said officials have already indicated the possibility of drinking water scarcity in parts of Aurad and Bhalki taluks. He instructed the authorities to resolve any such problems within 24 hours if they arise.
If borewells run dry or wells fail to yield sufficient water, officials should arrange the supply of tankers or get private borewells to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, he said. The Minister stressed that residents of tandas, hatti settlements, and other rural areas should not face any hardships due to water scarcity. He also asked officials to address minor water supply issues reported in some localities of Bidar city.
Mr. Khandre said the State government is considering releasing funds to the task force committee to deal with drinking water problems and assured that necessary measures will be taken to prevent scarcity in the district.
LPG problem
He also reviewed the supply of LPG cylinders in the district and said domestic cylinders are being distributed without scarcity. However, there could be delays of one to 10 days in the supply of commercial cylinders, as informed by the Union government. He urged the public not to believe rumours regarding LPG supply.
The Minister directed the district administration to keep strict vigil over the 29 LPG agencies operating in the district to prevent black marketing. Legal action will be taken against anyone found selling cylinders illegally, he warned.
Development works
During the meeting, Mr. Khandre also reviewed the progress of development works being implemented in the district with funds from the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board.
The Minister visited the construction site of the new district administrative complex building coming up at the premises of the old Deputy Commissioner’s office in Bidar city and took stock of the ongoing work.
He said the district complex is being built at an estimated cost of ₹48 crore and is a major step towards improving administrative infrastructure in the city. The facility will house several government departments under one roof, enabling citizens to access services more easily and efficiently.
Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Sharma, zilla panchayat CEO Girish Badole, Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti, and officials from various departments were present.
