The Italian discount supermarket chain Eurospin has opened its second outlet in Malta.
The store on Aldo Moro street in Marsa was inaugurated on Friday. It is located on the site of the former Salv Bezzina & Sons shipyard, covering a total area of 7,600 m² including 150 parking spaces.
The supermarket chain entered the Maltese market in 2024 with a 1,400 m² store in Mosta.
The group operates over 1,300 stores across Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and now Malta with a turnover reportedly close to €10 billion in 2024.
Sicilian construction company Gruppo La Cagnina Srl, which was entrusted with the installation of all the electrical, mechanical, air-conditioning, technological and security systems for the new Eurospin store, celebrated the inauguration as “source of great pride for us”.
In a social media post, they added it was the result of “commitment, expertise and, above all, great teamwork”, as they thanked Eurospin Malta for entrusting it with the work.
The latest Eurospin is part of a wave of supermarket development across Malta and Gozo which was approved by the Planning Authority in recent years. At least 13 medium-to-large outlets are in the pipeline, with Farsons CEO Norman Aquilina questioning the sustainability of such development.
