MUSCAT – Two expatriates who died following a drone incident in Oman’s Sohar Governorate on Friday morning were Indian nationals, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed, as authorities continue to monitor the situation and assist those affected.

Aseem Mahajan, Joint Secretary (Gulf) at the MEA, said the incident resulted in the deaths of two Indian citizens and injuries to several others, most of whom are also Indian nationals.

“I wish to share with all of you an incident which has happened in Sohar, Oman today. There was an attack, and in this incident, two Indian nationals died. We express our deepest condolences to their families,” Mahajan said.

According to the ministry, 11 people were injured in the incident, of whom 10 are Indian nationals.

Mahajan said five of the injured have already been discharged after receiving medical treatment, while the remaining five continue to receive care at local hospitals. None of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.

India’s diplomatic mission in Oman is coordinating with the company employing the workers and with local authorities to ensure support for those affected.

“Our mission is in close touch with the concerned company and local authorities and is rendering all assistance,” Mahajan added.

The incident occurred earlier on Friday in Sohar Governorate, an important industrial and port hub in northern Oman, amid heightened regional tensions involving drone activity across parts of the Gulf.
