Opposition Leader, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has publicly disagreed with Prime Minister Dr. Godwin’s Friday’s position on a matter which is now before the court.

Dr Gonsalves aired his disagreement while speaking on Star Radio on Monday, March 9, 2026.

The legal matter is challenging the eligibility as candidates of Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday and Foreign Affairs Minister Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble over their dual citizenship.

The case management hearing in the matter took place on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Dr Gonsalves said his understanding of the Law is that if the High Court disqualifies the two elected representatives, then the two representatives on the ballot who were not elected, would become the representative.

Following a decision by the High Court, the only legal recourse which the NDP has would be to take the matter to the Court of Appeal, he stated.

Dr Gonsalves also took issue where Dr. Friday is reported to have said the matter was frivolous.

“I saw a clip where Godwin Friday…said that the applications are frivolous, they taking up his time.

“It is not a frivolous matter,” Dr Gonsalves said.
