Iranian Foreign Ministry confirms new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded

AKIPRESS.COM – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed media reports that the country’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, sustained injuries, though officials emphasized that he is currently in good health.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told Corriere della Sera that while there is no confirmed date for a public address, the younger Khamenei was chosen by a majority of the Assembly of Experts from a shortlist of several candidates.

The confirmation follows a report by The New York Times claiming that Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded on February 28, during the initial day of joint military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran. While sources indicated that security concerns and medical recovery have kept him from public view, they maintained he remains conscious and stable. Although some Iranian officials initially claimed he was perfectly healthy, subsequent reports from Reuters and CNN suggest he suffered a leg injury or fracture but continues to carry out his official duties.
