Alice E. (Gosselin) LaFreniere

LIVERMORE – Our mother, Alice E. LaFreniere, passed on March 10, 2026 following a brief illness in the house where she grew up, the house that her Grandfather Collins built, located on the West Side in Livermore.

Alice was born in Livermore on Aug. 22, 1930 to loving and doting parents, Lucien and Bertha (Collins) Gosselin. Alice was a West Side historian, recalling many happy memories and events from her growing-up years. Her memory was as sharp as a tack!

In 1957 she married Morrill “Sonny” LaFreniere, and together they raised their large family of six sons and one daughter. For most of her life, she worked in the area shoe factories, retiring in 1997. After retirement, Alice and Sonny were able to enjoy many winters in Florida.

Mom loved collecting recipes and baking for her family right up until a few months ago. Mom was a devoted, loyal, hardworking wife and mother. She was kind, courageous, and strong-willed in a quiet way; traits that served her well throughout her life. We will miss her every day and hold her in our hearts forever.

Alice is survived by her children, Stephen (Joy), Brenda, Harvey (Lisa), Gary (Kim), Ross (Shiloh), Lance (Kristi), and Leon (Debbie); sister, Noreen, stepbrothers Adalard (Ruth) Castonguay, Thomas (Mariette) Castonguay, Charlie Castonguay, and Joseph (Patty) Castonguay, stepsisters Geraldine (Jim) Harvell and Marianne (Jeff) Mastaller, sister-in-law, Denise Hunter; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bertha and Lucien; stepmother, Joicey Gosselin; brother, Ronald Gosselin, sister, Linda Nagy and stepsister, Germaine Washburn. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Charles Merrill; granddaughter, Renee LaFreniere; sisters-in-law Janet Wright, Rita Masso, and Rebecca Evans, brothers-in-law Frank Hunter, Harold Wright, Robert Nagy, Raymond LaFreniere, and Paul LaFreniere.

A Mass will be held 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 17 at St. Rose of Lima, 1 Church St., Jay. Interment in the spring.
