The Ministry of Health Sierra Leone, in partnership with the University of Global Health Equity, has launched the first phase of a nationwide training programme aimed at strengthening hospital governance and leadership across the country.
The initiative targets key healthcare administrators, including hospital secretaries, medical superintendents, and matrons drawn from health facilities across Sierra Leone. The programme is designed to enhance their leadership capacity, improve management practices, and strengthen governance structures within hospitals.
Health officials say the training will equip participants with essential skills in hospital administration, decision-making, and effective leadership to improve the overall delivery of healthcare services.
The programme forms part of broader reforms within the health sector under the administration of President Julius Maada Bio, which focus on building the capacity of healthcare professionals and strengthening institutional leadership within the country’s medical facilities.
According to organisers, the training will be rolled out in phases and is expected to play a key role in improving accountability, coordination, and service delivery across hospitals nationwide.
