Universities are keeping CAO points artificially high creating “an illusion of fairness” that benefits students with greater financial resources, a leading educator has warned.
Paul Crone, director of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD), said the current Leaving Cert is effectively being treated as a university entrance exam, limiting the senior‑cycle experience and disadvantaging students who would gain from a broader, more holistic approach.
