Assam down town University (AdtU) marked International Women’s Day 2026 by honouring several self-made women achievers from different fields for their work and contributions to society.
According to a press note, the event recognised women who have contributed through their work in areas such as public service, entrepreneurship, community development, literature, grassroots welfare and sports. The programme highlighted their professional journeys and their roles in supporting and empowering communities.
The honourees included Purabi Saikia Mahanta from Mangaldoi, a creative entrepreneur; Tulika Gogoi Swargiary from Chandrapur, an entrepreneur and community leader; Monimala Rabha from Morigaon, an Anganwadi worker; Bijoya Das from Hatigaon, an inspector with Assam Police; Jumti Kakoti from Milanpur, a food entrepreneur; Mommy Nath from Morigaon, an entrepreneur, social worker and Assamese author; and Mitali Upadhaya from Kalapahar in Guwahati, a martial artist.
The university stated that the celebration aimed to recognise women who have contributed to society through their work and to acknowledge their role in encouraging future generations.
