WOODBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Police are investigating a suspicious death in Woodbury.
Troopers say that at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, they got a report from Woodbury residents of a body found at a roadside pull-off along Route 14.
“While they were checking their property, they found what they believed to be a deceased individual,” said Major Jeremy Hill of the Vermont State Police. When first responders arrived, they found a woman dead.
Investigators say they are treating the death as suspicious.
“At that point, the scene was secured and they called for the Major Crime Unit, the rest of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and our crime scene search team,” said Maj. Hill.
Officials at the scene were peering into an abandoned white Volvo, using a drone, placing flags, and looking for evidence.
The woman’s body will be taken to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification, and to determine the cause and manner of death.
After the autopsy, police expect to reveal the cause of death and the identity of Jane Doe after notifying relatives. Right now, police do not have anyone in custody.
