Guwahati: Girijananda Chowdhury University will host its Annual Varsity Week EUPHUISM ’26 at its Azara campus in Guwahati from March 11 to 14, bringing together students from across the region for a four-day celebration of culture, music, technology and sports.

Centered on the theme “Roots and Resilience,” the festival will feature performances by several prominent artists, including internationally acclaimed Assamese musician Joi Barua, folk-fusion band The Cultivators, and Meghalaya-based indie-punk group Street Stories. Russian DJ DJ Holy C will perform at the grand finale.

According to the university, the festival aims to blend traditional heritage with the vibrancy of contemporary youth culture through a range of inter-university competitions in arts, technology and gaming. The event will also include a special tribute segment dedicated to Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, recognising his contribution to the region’s musical landscape and his influence on younger artists.

A major highlight of the musical lineup will be Joi Barua, who has gained international recognition through collaborations with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. Barua has also received honours at the Cannes World Film Festival for his work in music.

The university has announced a prize pool of over Rs 1.15 lakh for various competitions open to universities and schools. Key events include the “Loud & Live” battle of bands, “Rhythm of Roots” group folk dance competition and “Theatrica”, a platform for socially themed drama performances.

Technical events will include the “Prajukti” hackathon, “Acceleron” robo race and “Circuitronics” circuit-making contest, while “Gameverse” will cater to e-sports enthusiasts. A March Past event for school participants will also be organised during the festival.

The university said the event reflects its broader effort to combine academic learning with cultural engagement, encouraging students to balance professional ambitions with a strong connection to their cultural roots. Students interested in participating can register through the festival’s official website.
