ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An Albuquerque man accused of more than a dozen burglaries will stay in jail until his trial, after facing a judge on Monday.
Police say Joseph Montoya was arrested after he broke into a collector’s shop in northeast Albuquerque. A nearby business owner reportedly saw the break-in and shot Montoya during a confrontation.
Since then, police have linked Montoya to 15 other burglaries. In some cases, he allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of items.
“Came in basically two and a half minutes at a couple of showcases, grabbed the Willy Wonka stuff, some Game of Thrones, slabbed out baseball cards, some wax, grabbed a couple of jerseys and headed out,” said Shane Westhoelter, CEO and founder of All In Autographs.
A judge agreed with prosecutors to keep Montoya in jail until his trial.
