Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mazen Al-Qadi, called on the head and members of the Parliamentary Labor Committee to exercise the highest degrees of accuracy and objectivity while discussing the amended Social Security Law draft. He urged the committee to remain open to all opinions and viewpoints, prioritizing the interests of the nation and its citizens.
During a press conference held by the Labor, Social Development, and Population Committee to outline its work plan for the draft law, Al-Qadi expressed his respect for the “Fourth Estate” (the media). He emphasized the importance of media attendance in all parliamentary sessions related to the bill to enhance transparency and keep the public informed.
Social Security as a Pillar of National Stability
Al-Qadi stated that these discussions come at a time when the nation is facing “delicate security conditions,” requiring national solidarity and responsibility. He described the Social Security Law as a “sensitive and pivotal” piece of legislation that touches the core of Jordanian society and is directly linked to social security and stability.
“We are faced with a national responsibility to study this draft law with extreme care,” Al-Qadi said. “We must reach balanced outcomes that protect the rights of subscribers while ensuring the sustainability of the Social Security Corporation.”
Correcting the Course
In a notable remark on past management, Al-Qadi pointed out that if there had been full commitment to the application and oversight of the law in previous stages, the current need for such significant amendments might have been avoided. He clarified that these remarks were intended to ensure the “correction of the current path” and to prevent future imbalances or “falling into the forbidden” (unforeseen systemic failures) in the years to come.
