Agartala: Three migrant labourers, along with one local colleague, have been arrested in Tripura’s Belonia for their alleged involvement in the death of a 27-year-old brick kiln worker, police said. The deceased has been identified as Bhakta Das.
According to the police complaint filed by Das’s wife, he was admitted to GB Pant Hospital after being grievously injured by the accused. On Saturday night, he passed away while undergoing treatment.
“He had no external injuries. Soon after his death, his wife, Kabita Das, lodged a police complaint with the PR Bari police station, naming four persons. Shortly after receiving the complaint, an was registered, and all four accused were taken into custody,” OC Sanjit Sen told reporters.
The police said that on March 5, the management of Kalimata Brick Field paid wages to its workers. A clash broke out between the accused and the deceased on that day, after which both parties returned home.
Bhakta Das, who was beaten during the scuffle, fell unconscious around 2 a.m. that night. He was first taken to a local hospital, then referred to Santirbazar District Hospital, and later to GB Pant Hospital, Agartala, for advanced treatment. Das succumbed to his injuries late on Saturday night.
“Upon arrest, the accused admitted that they had beaten the deceased on March 5,” Sen said.
The accused have been identified as Ajay Orang, Ramlal Orang, Guddu, and Basudeb Das. Three of them are from Jharkhand, while one is a local resident.
