Solar-powered public plaza in Arail | Prayagraj News

Prayagraj: A fully solar-powered public plaza spread across 40,000 sq metres is set to come up along the Yamuna riverbank in Arail, offering residents a modern leisure space with green and digital features. The project, which aims to promote eco-friendly infrastructure and tourism, entered the construction phase after the implementing agency floated tenders for the work. Officials of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) said the plaza would be implemented by Construction and Design Services (C&DS) at a cost of Rs 18.40 crore. It is expected to be completed within one year. Project manager Rohit Rana said the upcoming facility would have sports courts, a rain garden and Miyawaki park, which would promote greenery and environmental sustainability. One of the major highlights would be its 100% solar-powered energy system, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The campus would also feature an EV charging station, enabling visitors to charge their electric vehicles conveniently. In addition, the entire plaza would be equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, making it a modern and digitally accessible public space. It would also include a food zone and a vending area, where stalls would showcase Rudraksha garlands and handicraft items made by local artisans, providing an opportunity for local vendors and craftsmen. Officials believe the facility would become a major attraction for both residents and tourists, similar to Shivalaya and Sahityik Parks. The project received approval from the Uttar Pradesh urban development department last year. Meanwhile, another landmark of the Sangam city, the historic All Saints’ Cathedral (popularly known as the Patthar Girja) in Civil Lines, is also set to receive a facelift. The structure would soon be illuminated with decorative and façade lights. Built in the 19th century in Gothic architectural style, the church would undergo beautification work with funds worth Rs 8 crore. According to PMC chief engineer, Anil Maurya, the project would also include facilities like shops, parking areas, seating benches, a selfie point and public toilets. Tenders for the lighting and beautification work are expected to be released soon. Officials said both projects are part of a broader plan to enhance Prayagraj’s public spaces and heritage sites while promoting sustainable and tourist-friendly urban development.
