INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Bringing women across central Indiana together to celebrate achievements and share resources for success, that was the goal of Friday’s International Women’s Day Conference.
The Asian American Alliance and the Indiana Commission for Women hosted an International Women’s Day conference, bringing together entrepreneurs, community leaders and women looking to grow professionally.
Rupal Thanawala, event chair of the International Women’s Day Conference, said, “This year is special for because this year’s theme is Give to Gain. First of all, it’s my personal philosophy, but then also I want to empower others to give back and give generosity because that’s how we can help each other.”
Thanwala also said, “Today we just take a pause and make sure that we are saying thank you to everyone woman who are our heroes. Heroes that don’t wear capes, but they’re always contributing. Whether you’re a mother, daughter, coworker, you’re one of the service providers. We want them to know, thank you very much, and you’re being seen.”
The event included panel discussions focused on entrepreneurship, education, excellence and empowerment. Republican Gov. Mike Braun and his wife both spoke at the event. The governor declared March 6 as International Women’s Day in Indiana.
Participants said the event provided inspiration and practical tools they can use moving forward. Latrina Eisenman, a business teacher and attendee, said, “I’m learning how useful AI (artificial intelligence) is. So that’s just been really, really, impactful listening to that. Learned a lot about that, also as a business teacher in a classroom, what that looks like, but then also just how important it is to support local.”
Vendors set up booths to showcase their products and services. Attendees had the chance to network, and even take free professional headshots.
Gloria Carter of Be A Glow Ministries, said, “So many women here who have said the same thing today. They didn’t think they have a voice but they do. Know that you have a voice, and use it.”
Organizers say this event and others like it are about more than celebrating women for a day. It’s also about building lasting connections making sure women have the resources they need to exceed.
