Woman dies of gunshot wound in South Anchorage, police say

Anchorage police say they’re investigating the suspicious death of a woman shot in South Anchorage on Thursday.

Police responded to the scene of a reported shooting on the 9500 block of Brayton Drive on Thursday at about 2 p.m., and found a woman with an upper-body gunshot wound inside a vehicle, the Anchorage Police Department said Friday morning in an online statement. She died at the scene, police said.

No arrests have been made, according to APD.

Police said in the statement there were “no outstanding suspects related to the incident” and that investigators have contacted everybody involved.

The statement provided no other details about the circumstances of the shooting.

APD spokesperson Amanda Brimanis said the death is considered suspicious but declined to answer other questions when asked.

“Additional details in response to your other questions cannot be provided at this time, as they are part of the ongoing investigation,” she said in an email.
