Warm Weather Expected Across Finland Due to Foehn Winds and High Pressure System | Finland Today | News in English

In the southern and central parts of the country, daytime temperatures will rise above zero every day at the end of the week, according to weather service Foreca.

Due to the likeliness of a favorable foehn wind, temperatures well above 5 degrees Celsius can be expected in the southern and central parts of the country—even in Lapland! In addition, it is possible that the 10-degree mark could be broken locally over the weekend.

In the southern part of the country, temperatures may remain above freezing in some places at night.

But what is the reason behind this sudden burst of warmth and light?

“The weather gets warmer because of increased sunlight on the one hand and a large-scale weather system on the other. This week, high pressure over Central Europe will intensify, move eastward and cause winds to blow over the Norwegian mountains into Finland as a dry and mild foehn wind. At the same time, warmer air masses will spread across Finland,” said meteorologist Joanna Rinne in Foreca’s blog.

Meteorologists forecast that there are no signs the weather will turn cold again in the near future.
