‘AS FAR Showed Champion’s Character in Win Over Wydad’

Rabat – AS FAR Rabat claimed a crucial 2-1 win over Wydad Casablanca in a fiery El Clasico at Mohammed V Stadium, a result that reshaped the Botola title race.

After the match, midfielder Rabie Hrimat hailed his team’s resilience: “We deserved this win against Wydad. They are a strong side, but AS FAR showed its character. The personality of a champion appears in these big games. We came to Casablanca for three points, and we achieved that.”

He also thanked the fans: “I appreciate our supporters who stood by us even during Ramadan. We left the ball to Wydad early, then took control. We want to keep improving match by match, and why not aim for all trophies this season”

Hrimat stressed the weight of the club’s history: “Wydad are a great team with quality players, but the AS FAR jersey is heavy. Our fans demand victories, whether in the league or the Champions League. This is only the beginning, and we will try to deliver both performance and results.”

What happened in the game

The match began with drama in the 19th minute when Wydad’s Sabber turned a corner into his own net, giving AS FAR the lead.

Wydad responded through Hakim Ziyech, who struck a stunning long-range equalizer before halftime.

But, AS FAR regained control after the break, with Youssef El Fahli finishing off a slick passing move to secure the win. Wydad’s hopes faded further when Ziyech left injured in the 58th minute, forcing a tactical reshuffle.

The victory lifts AS FAR to third place with 25 points from 11 matches, just one point behind Wydad, who remain on 26.

Raja Casablanca lead the table with 27 points from 14 games, but both AS FAR and Wydad have three matches in hand, keeping the race wide open.

The next fixtures will test both sides further. Wydad travel to Rabat to face Union Touarga Sport at Al Madina Stadium, while AS FAR head to Zemamra to meet Renaissance Club Zemamra at Ahmed Choukri Stadium.

This El Clásico win not only strengthens AS FAR’s title credentials but also reinforces their confidence heading into the decisive stage of the season.
