Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would register an emphatic victory in the forthcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Addressing media persons after participating in a roadshow at Khumulwng, the headquarters of the TTAADC, the Chief Minister said the party’s campaign, themed “Empowering Janajati, Empowering Tripura,” had drawn an encouraging response from the people.
He maintained that development initiatives for indigenous communities had gathered pace since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office at the Centre, and that the state government was committed to carrying forward that momentum.
Saha criticised the current administration of the ADC, describing its performance as unsatisfactory. He said the region required a decisive shift in governance and asserted that meaningful change would only be possible if the BJP secured a majority in the upcoming polls.
“The response we are receiving from various parts of the state gives us confidence that the people are ready for change and will extend their mandate to the BJP,” he said.
The Chief Minister also voiced optimism about the party’s prospects in the Village Committee (VC) elections, stating that the BJP expected significant gains in both the ADC and VC polls.
According to him, the party’s organisational strength and grassroots outreach in tribal areas had improved considerably in recent years.
Responding to allegations that the salaries of TTAADC employees were withheld ahead of Holi, Saha clarified that the delay was caused by a technical issue that was promptly resolved.
He said funds were released immediately after the matter was brought to his attention, and necessary directions were issued to ensure there was no further inconvenience to employees.
Citing the government’s welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister referred to the recent decision to enhance stipends for hostel inmates under the Tribal Welfare Department.
He noted that the move would impose an additional financial burden of Rs 30 crore on the state exchequer but underscored that the government remained committed to investing in the welfare and education of tribal students.
Saha further stated that the government had drawn up comprehensive development plans for the TTAADC region and assured that visible progress would be achieved in the coming years.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who was present at the event, echoed the Chief Minister’s optimism. He said that under Saha’s leadership, the BJP had steadily expanded its organisational base across ADC areas and was well positioned to put up a strong performance in the elections.
He alleged that the CPI(M) had long treated residents of the ADC as a captive vote bank, but claimed that its influence had declined significantly since the BJP came to power in the state in 2018.
Chowdhury said the turnout at the roadshow reflected growing public support for the BJP and indicated a favourable beginning to the party’s campaign in the TTAADC.
He added that many people who were previously misled were now reassessing their political choices and aligning themselves with what they believed would best serve their interests.
