The temperature topped 15.3° at the De Bilt weather station near Utrecht on Wednesday, making March 4 the third day in a row that weather records have been broken.

The previous record on March 4 was 15° and was set in 1939. In the south of the country it was even warmer, but not enough to break the 1939 record of 17.6° recorded in Sittard that same year.

In total, 194 warm weather records have been broken this century, compared with just 19 for chilly temperatures.

This difference is a good indication of the gradual impact of climate change, weather bureau Weeronline said.

The warm, sunny weather is set to continue over the weekend, according to weather bureau KNMI, although there may be a little more cloud on Saturday.

More cloud and rain may move in from Monday.
