Hawaii island police arrested three men this afternoon on suspicion of second-degree reckless endangering after gunshots were heard near a subdivision in Kailua-Kona.
Police said at about 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots coming from a residence on the 75-5000 block of Queen Kaahumanu Highway.
Upon arrival, they found three men at the residence, and upon preliminary investigation, believe they discharged the firearms outside as target practice or some kind of recreational shooting.
Since the residence is in close proximity to a school and numerous homes in a nearby subdivision, police arrested the three on suspicion of second-degree reckless endangering.
There was no active threat to the school or surrounding community, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
