Bad weather and flood risk to persist until Wednesday

Weather officials say flooding risks will remain elevated until Wednesday, despite Tropical Cyclone Urmil  drifting out of Fiji’s Area of Responsibility and weakening overnight.

The Fiji Meteorological Service confirmed that TC Urmil has weakened rapidly and disintegrated, and was officially declassified in the early hours of this morning. It is now referred to as Ex-TC Urmil.

While the cyclone itself no longer exists, weather officials warn that the active trough and associated rainbands linked to the system remain positioned over the country.

Occasional rain is still expected across Fiji, with heavy falls possible at times, particularly in the Western Division.

Although conditions are forecast to gradually ease, unsettled weather is expected to persist until Wednesday, keeping the risk of flooding high, especially during high tide periods.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are being urged to remain vigilant, monitor water levels closely, and continue following official weather advisories as conditions slowly improve.
