The Church of Jesus Christ and FamilySearch digitize 760,000 images for National Archives

Santo Domingo.- In a major effort to preserve the Dominican Republic’s historical and genealogical heritage, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, through its FamilySearch initiative, has collaborated with the National Archives (AGN) to digitize 760,000 images containing valuable genealogical records. This initiative significantly enhances access to family history information for citizens and researchers alike.

AGN Director Roberto Cassá emphasized the value of the project, stating that these digitized archives will make it easier for people to identify their ancestry and strengthen their personal and national identity. FamilySearch representative Félix Díaz also noted the deep spiritual and emotional importance of genealogy, highlighting how reconnecting with one’s roots fosters a stronger sense of purpose and connection to past generations.

The official ceremony, attended by key representatives from AGN and FamilySearch, marked a milestone in preserving the country’s documentary legacy. With increased access to these archives, Dominicans will be better equipped to explore their lineage, support historical research, and foster respect for their ancestors—ensuring future generations remain connected to their origins.
