Greece’s National Security Council to convene on developments in the Middle East

The National Security Governmental Council (KYSEA), Greece ’s top decision-making body for foreign affairs and defense matters, will convene for an extraordinary meeting at 6.30 p.m. Saturday, February 28, following the latest developments in the Middle East.

The meeting will be held at the Maximos Mansion and will be chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Saturday morning, the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran, with the first apparent strike happening near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iranian media reported strikes nationwide, and smoke could be seen rising from the capital.

Soon, Iran started to fire missiles against US bases in UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and other countries in the region of the Persian Gulf, Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen joined the war announcing to hit Israel with missiles, the US started to hit places in Iraq and the rest of the world is holding its breath…

At the same time, the Greek Foreign Ministry remains silent, there has been no post or announcement by early afternoon Saturday. about the safety and/or possible evacuation plans of Greek nationals in the affected countries.

There was only a travel advice late on Friday urging Greeks to avoid visits to Israel, the Palestinian Territories and Iran.
