JD Vance drew mockery Thursday after embracing a fellow Trump official’s description of him as the “coolest” U.S. vice president of all time.
Introducing Vance at an event in Wisconsin, U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler told the crowd:
“You all know the story of his humble beginnings and now he’s in the Oval Office as the second most powerful man in the world and probably the coolest vice president we’ve ever had.”
When Vance later took the stage, he circled back to the remark.
“I will say I took special note of one thing that she said, though. Kelly said that I’m the coolest vice president in American history. And I said: ‘Kelly, that is a low standard. That is a very low bar.’ But I do think that I clear that bar. But I do think that was a low standard she set me to.”
The line drew laughter in the room, but mockery online.
Some critics suggested that declaring yourself “cool” has the opposite effect.
Others responded with meme images of Vance and clips of former President Joe Biden during his time as vice president to Barack Obama.
