KENLY, N.C. (WNCN) – A driver is facing several charges after his tractor-trailer smashed into a guardrail and crashed down an embankment, spilling blueberries across Interstate 95 in Johnston County early Wednesday morning, state troopers said.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the tractor-trailer was heading northbound on I-95 around 12:30 a.m. when the vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway, colliding with a guardrail. The truck then overturned onto its side down an embankment, close to mile marker 107 near Kenly.
The truck was hauling blueberries at the time of the wreck, NCSHP officials said. The driver, who troopers identified as Sumit Singh from New York, was taken to Smithfield Hospital, but his injuries are considered minor.

Singh is charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane control, troopers said.
The right lane was closed as a tow truck carried the wreckage away from the scene, NCSHP officials said. Traffic was diverted to the left lane for a stretch until passing mile marker 107 completely.
That section of I-95 northbound was shut down for approximately eight hours, but has since fully reopened, according to NCSHP officials.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
