CT man with gun accused of threatening person in ongoing dispute

A man was arrested on Monday after he was reportedly found sitting on his front stoop with a shotgun following a report of suspicious activity in Wallingford.

Officer were dispatched to Clinton Place around 7:26 p.m. on Monday in response to a report of suspicious activity involving a firearm, according to the Wallingford Police Department.

Officers reportedly observed a man, later identified as 64-year-old David Scott Brown, seated on his front stoop holding a short black shotgun, police said.

Officers issued verbal commands for Brown to drop the weapon and approach them. According to police, he complied without incident and was taken into custody.

Officer secured the firearm, which was later determined to be unloaded, police said. A search of Brown also allegedly revealed two small knives.

The person who issued the complaint alleged that Brown was “holding and manipulating what appeared to be a shotgun, gesturing toward him as he racked the shotgun,” according to police.

“There have been previous and ongoing disputes between the complainant and Brown,” police said.

Brown was transported to Wallingford Police Department headquarters where he was processed and charged with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace. He was held on a $100,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior
Court on March 2.

A Risk Protection Order was requested and signed by a judge, according to police. Police seized Brown’s shotgun, additional firearms, ammunition, and pistol permit.
