Record Warmth, Fire Danger & Snow Chances

EXTREME fire danger peaks from 2pm-10pm W->E. Southwest Nebraska & the sandhills near or west of HWY 61 are in a rare EXTREMELY CRITICAL fire danger outlook Tuesday afternoon. Take extra caution this afternoon.

A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect for really all of Nebraska through 10pm Tuesday night. Gusts up to 45-50 mph, RH% less than 20% & warm temperatures will persist through Wednesday morning farther east.

Record warmth this afternoon! High temperatures reaching the 60s & upper 70s with strong SW winds 25-35 mph under partly skies! RECORD: 74° set back in 2017.

Tuesday afternoon, gusty west winds up to 45-55+ mph will take over Nebraska. The strongest winds farther west in the extremely critical area. Peak winds: 10am-midnight.

Tuesday evening, a line of sprinkles in eastern, NE. A decent chance for snow comes Thursday! Wet/heavy snow farther NW before moving SSE Thursday afternoon. Dry/fluffy snow occurs as the colder air sinks in. The best chance for 1-3″+ looks to be north of G.I. Still uncertainty on totals and system positioning. Stay tuned for the latest!

Models are in agreement on the direction side of things. Snow starts farther NW & moves south before launching to the northeast through Friday morning. Farther north and NW areas have a good chance to see 1-3″+ through Friday morning.

Tuesday turns windy with record warmth making for EXTREME FIRE DANGER. Some light rain and dry lightning possible Tuesday evening in eastern Nebraska. A cold front moves in Wednesday night, bringing rain/snow mix to the state. Best chance for 1-3″ of snow will be north of I-80. Next week brings warmer air and more chances for precipitation.
