ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Moisture is on the rise, leading to more widespread rain in the region.
Winter weather advisories are in place for the Tusas and Sangre de Cristo Mountains until 5 a.m. Saturday, with up to 8 inches of snow expected above 8,500 feet. Rain is anticipated across much of the area tonight, with storm total rainfall generally ranging from 0.10 to 0.30 inches.
Mountain snow continues primarily at ski resort elevations in the northern mountains, while snow impacts at mid-elevations have decreased. A few rumbles of thunder and small soft hail, known as graupel, are possible this evening before diminishing overnight.
Saturday morning, rain and mountain snow are expected to taper off quickly as the storm moves into the Texas Panhandle. Brisk north winds will develop across the eastern plains behind the storm.
Weather changes
By Saturday night, skies will clear as high pressure builds in, creating a good setup for fog development. Fog coverage will depend on the amount of rain that falls and the remaining low-level moisture.
Sunday will be warmer and breezy, especially across eastern New Mexico, with temperatures rising above average.
