Agartala: A special POCSO Court on Thursday convicted a man of raping his stepdaughter and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The convict, who is 52 years old at the time of sentencing, shall spend the remainder of his life in jail, according to Special Public Prosecutor Jayanta Chowdhury.
Elaborating on the facts of the case, Chowdhury said, “The victim’s mother married the convict as her second husband. She had a daughter from her previous marriage.
On the night of April 15, 2024, while the mother was away from the bedroom, the convict raped the child. When the mother returned, she found her daughter lying on the floor, bleeding profusely.
She raised an alarm, and with the help of neighbors, the victim was rushed to the hospital.”At the time of the incident, the victim was only 11 years old. “On April 16, the mother lodged an FIR at the Mandai police station. Following an investigation, the police filed a charge sheet.
After a prolonged trial, the Court convicted the accused on Thursday and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000; failure to pay will result in an extended period of rigorous imprisonment,” Chowdhury stated.
Chowdhury noted that because the victim’s mother lacked financial security, the girl has since been moved to a childcare home. “She is doing well at the home and has resumed her studies,” he added
