The Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) has joined a purposeful initiative designed to guide, support, and promote children’s education across five districts of Lesotho, with yesterday marking the first day of activities in Mokhotlong District. The event brings together key educational institutions and service providers to engage high school learners and expose them to opportunities available beyond high school. Participating institutions include the National University of Lesotho, University of the Free State, Botho University, Wits University, Lesotho College of Education, and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, among others. Learners are offered guidance on career paths, higher education options, and practical skills to prepare them for future success. The initiative aims to empower students with knowledge that will influence their academic and professional choices.
LRCS plays a dual role in the event, providing First Aid coverage and promoting the spirit of volunteerism among youth. The Society seeks to inspire young people to join the Red Cross Movement and understand the value of being active, responsible members of their communities. Through demonstrations and interactive sessions, learners are introduced to the principles of volunteer service and the positive impact volunteers can have on society. The initiative highlights how volunteering contributes to building safer, stronger communities while nurturing skills, empathy, and civic responsibility among young people.
The event also serves as a platform for LRCS to leave a lasting impression on learners by showing the practical benefits of volunteerism. By engaging with students directly, the Society demonstrates how volunteer work develops leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that are valuable both in school and future careers. LRCS emphasizes that volunteerism is not only a way to give back but also a means to create opportunities for personal growth and community development. The Society encourages learners to take active roles in community initiatives, setting an example for responsible citizenship.
Her Royal Highness Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of education, mentorship, and community engagement. She urged learners to explore all available opportunities and embrace education as a tool for personal advancement and societal progress. Her address reinforced the importance of combining academic achievement with active participation in community initiatives, echoing the values promoted by LRCS.
The initiative in Mokhotlong marks the beginning of a series of events across five districts, ensuring that more learners benefit from exposure to higher education and volunteer opportunities. LRCS’s participation underscores its commitment to supporting youth development while promoting the Red Cross ethos of service and humanitarian engagement. The program aims to empower the next generation with knowledge, skills, and values necessary to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the country at large.
