Amid sansad showdown, General Naravane breaks silence on unpublished memoir

Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane has broken his silence regarding the controversy surrounding his memoir. He endorsed a statement from his publisher, Penguin Random House, which clarified that the book has not yet been published, distributed, or sold in any format. This development follows a heated debate in Parliament where the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, cited contents allegedly from the book. The publisher’s statement, now backed by the former Army Chief, asserts that ‘no copies of the book in print or digital form have been published or distributed or sold or otherwise made available to the public’. The treasury benches had previously questioned the authenticity of the cited material, noting the book’s unpublished status. While the opposition argues the contents remain relevant regardless of the publication stage, the publisher has hinted at potential legal remedies regarding the circulation of unauthorised copies. The endorsement serves as a significant clarification in the ongoing political saga.
