Guwahati: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday alleged that the Tipra Motha Party-run Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has been marked by financial and administrative failures, and warned that the state government could make public details of what he described as unethical practices within the council.
Speaking to reporters, Saha claimed that retired employees of the autonomous council had not received their pensions due to poor financial management. According to him, the situation reflected a lack of budgetary discipline on the part of the council administration.
The chief minister said pension payments at the Khumulwng-based council are not directly funded by either the Centre or the state government, but depend on how the council manages its allocated resources. He maintained that the delay in releasing pensions was linked to improper utilisation of funds rather than a shortage of financial support from higher authorities.
Saha also criticised the TTAADC for failing to conduct elections to Village Committees (VCs), alleging that the council did not adhere to statutory requirements after the end of its tenure. He said the election process had remained stalled following the reorganisation and formation of new village committees.
Elections to 587 village committees, which were scheduled for February 2021, are yet to be held. The chief minister said the prolonged delay had affected public welfare, adding that the state government continued to carry out development work independently and within stipulated timelines.
Responding to assertions on the resolution of the Reang refugee issue, Saha said the rehabilitation process was the outcome of sustained efforts spanning more than two decades, and argued that no single party or leader should claim exclusive credit for it.
He also rejected claims by Tipra Motha regarding the return and rehabilitation of surrendered militants from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), stating that these initiatives were undertaken by his government.
Saha noted that the Centre had approved Rs 250 crore for the rehabilitation of surrendered militants under a peace agreement, with political stakeholders being involved in the ongoing peace-building process.
On the same day, the chief minister announced that 413 individuals representing multiple parties have become part of the BJP-IPFT coalition.
