Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey arrives in Fiji for Law Ministers meeting

Commonwealth Secretary General, Shirley Botchwey has arrived in Fiji ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting that starts tomorrow in Nadi.

She expressing appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the host nation.

In a post on X, Ms Botchwey said she was grateful to Fiji as preparations get underway for the high-level meeting, which comes at a time when the rule of law is facing growing pressure globally.

“With the rule of law under pressure globally, our meeting brings the #Commonwealth together to strengthen the legal protections people rely on daily to live, work and prosper – our shared priority,” she wrote.

“The rule of law is the foundation of a resilient future.”

Ms Botchwey said discussions at the meeting will focus on practical steps to strengthen legal systems and improve access to justice across the Commonwealth.

“Next week, I look forward to joining Commonwealth law ministers to discuss practical steps to strengthen legal systems and improve access to justice for all across the Commonwealth,” she said.

Fiji is hosting the meeting, which is expected to bring together law ministers and senior legal officials from across the Commonwealth of Nations to address shared legal challenges and reinforce cooperation among member states.
