INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said Friday night that it’s launched an internal review after a recent video captured an officer speaking to a juvenile.
Police say the officer was involved in a traffic stop, and the video was circulated on social media.
Before the traffic stop, IMPD had received information that students may be at a planned protest with firearms. They say officers saw a male juvenile enter a vehicle with a gun before initiating the traffic stop.
Officers arrested the juvenile for dangerous possession.
IMPD on Friday night released a photograph of the gun as well as a statement that said in part, “While the video does not show the entire incident, some of the language heard does not reflect the standards or values of the IMPD. Accountability is essential to building trust and legitimacy with our community. The involved officer was equipped with a body-worn camera, which recorded the incident. An internal review is underway to determine the full circumstances of the encounter.”
