On 5 February 2026, Grenada and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh officially established diplomatic relations, ushering in a new era of partnership between the Caribbean and South Asia and signalling Grenada’s growing engagement on the global stage.
The agreement was signed in London by Her Excellency Rachér Croney, High Commissioner for Grenada to the United Kingdom, and Her Excellency Abida Islam, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the United Kingdom. This historic signing highlights the growing significance of South-South cooperation and global partnerships, as Grenada expands its diplomatic engagement in South Asia. It creates promising avenues for collaboration across diverse sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture and food security, climate change adaptation and resilience, education and capacity building, textiles and manufacturing, health, information and communication technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Bangladesh, one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies and a leader in sectors such as garments and textiles, pharmaceuticals, and digital innovation, presents exciting opportunities to support Grenada’s sustainable development ambitions. United by a shared commitment to climate action, cultural diplomacy, and international cooperation, both nations are poised to strengthen global ties through dialogue, mutual respect, and common development goals.
High Commissioner Croney stated, “The establishment of diplomatic relations between Grenada and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is a powerful affirmation of the growing solidarity among nations of the Global South and a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation among developing states. As 2 countries on the frontline of climate change, Grenada and Bangladesh share not only common vulnerabilities but bring an important perspective to the global dialogue on resilience, and sustainable development, as well as a shared responsibility to champion climate action. We look forward to deeper cooperation, mutual learning, and collective leadership in advancing solutions that place people, equity, and the planet at the centre of global decision-making.”

High Commissioner Islam echoed similar sentiments, stating, “It is a profound honour to formalise diplomatic relations with Grenada — the Isle of Spice — marking a new era of South-South cooperation. This partnership bridges South Asia and the Caribbean through shared values of resilience and our unique shared birthday at the United Nations on 17 September 1974. As fellow Commonwealth members and climate-vulnerable maritime states, we will merge Bangladesh’s leadership in disaster resilience with Grenada’s influential voice among Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to advocate for climate justice and the Three Zeros vision. Looking forward, I am confident that our London missions will serve as the primary gateway for forging meaningful connections in the Blue Economy, trade, education, and pharmaceuticals, ensuring a flourishing partnership built on mutual respect and shared prosperity.”
The signing of diplomatic relations between Grenada and Bangladesh reflects the shared values of both countries and a commitment to constructive engagement within the international community. It underscores Grenada’s continued focus on building partnerships that advance economic growth, social development, and global solidarity. As fellow members of the Commonwealth, Grenada and Bangladesh also affirm the importance of collective action on climate change and sustainable development. Grenada welcomes this new partnership and looks forward to working with the Government and people of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is the third country with which Grenada has recently established diplomatic relations, with all agreements being signed in London. Diplomatic relations were established with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Gambia in 2025.
