RIO RANCHO, N.M. – A local family’s dream home turned into a nightmare after a flood caused nearly $29,000 in damage, which they attribute to a company’s digging.
The Twichell family in Rio Rancho experienced a flood the day after moving in, leading to significant damage. They claim an Ezee Fiber crew compromised their sewer line while digging, resulting in water damage.
“The day after we moved in, our house flooded,” said Miranda Twichell. She described water rising from the toilet, sink, and shower.
The damage included waterlogged floors, mold, and malfunctioning appliances. “We ran it, and rocks and dirt came out,” Twichell said about their washing machine.
Ezee Fiber responsibility
Ezee Fiber subcontractors were digging in the neighborhood, leading to the compromised sewer line. The Twichells submitted a damage estimate and were told the issue would be handled through insurance.
“We said we’re not comfortable with that,” Twichell said. After a month of silence, they reached out to KOB 4 for help.
The Twichells received a call after KOB 4 contacted Ezee Fiber and the city of Rio Rancho. “He called today and said that someone from their customer service team would be reaching out,” Twichell said.
An Ezee Fiber representative confirmed they are expediting payment for the initial $29,000 estimate. They also sent the following statement:
“We regret the disruption caused by a rare construction incident at this home, which we became aware of on January 4. We immediately took responsibility and have remained in direct contact with the homeowner through our contractor since that time. As part of the normal repair process, estimates were obtained from both an Ezee Fiber contractor and the homeowner’s preferred contractor. The homeowner’s estimate was submitted on January 29 and subsequently received by Ezee Fiber on February 4. That same day, we verbally approved the estimate and confirmed to the homeowner that we will reimburse their preferred contractor for the repairs. Payment is being expedited and is expected to reach the homeowner within the next few days.”
