February the 6th, 2026 – The popular budget airline Wizz Air is set to increase its presence in this region and increase its Croatia flights in 2026.
As Sinisa Malus/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Wizz Air has recently introduced two more routes, bringing the total number of new flights to airports in the region to 41 on the cards for March. This includes 17 new routes from Podgorica, six from Tuzla, four each from Belgrade and Ohrid, three from Dubrovnik and Rijeka, and two each from Skopje and Pristina.
wizz air will bring in direct routes for its croatia flights in 2026
The low-cost carrier could unveil additional routes for the upcoming summer season. The airline’s aggressive expansion in Croatia’s more immediate region comes after almost two years of stagnation and decline caused by engine problems that affected its Airbus A320neo family fleet. The new seasonal route from Dubrovnik to Cluj in Romania will be available to passengers from mid-May 2026, with the first flight between the two cities scheduled for May the 23rd, 2026. Dubrovnik has therefore been added to the list of summer destinations that passengers can visit directly from Cluj, without the need to bother with any additional transfers.
Flights will operate twice a week during the summer season (every Tuesday and Saturday), until October the 24th, 2026. Wizz Air is increasing its Croatia flights throughout 2026 as it plans to also connect Dubrovnik with Budapest in Hungary and Gdańsk in Poland. There will also be a long-standing seasonal route to Warsaw introduced. It isn’t all solely happening in Croatia’s southernmost city, either, as Rijeka Airport has also confirmed that low-cost carrier Wizz Air is coming to the airport. Rijeka Airport’s passengers will therefore be able to use three new routes to Poland from June.
Passengers will be able to enjoy three new regular routes to Poland from June the 9th, 2026: Gdańsk – Rijeka on Tuesdays and Saturdays, Katowice – Rijeka on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and Lublin – Rijeka on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The new routes bring more than 65,000 new seats, which means even better connections between Kvarner and Poland and an additional boost for tourism and the economy of the region. Tickets for these routes are already on sale.
lufthansa and Swiss air are also eyeing croatian expansions
In addition to Wizz Air, Lufthansa and Swiss Air are also expanding their Croatia flights network in 2026, and this will take place in Rijeka. Lufthansa is increasing the number of flights on the Frankfurt-Rijeka route. Last summer, the route operated once a week, while this year, a Saturday flight is being reintroduced from May the 2nd, and an additional flight on Wednesdays as of May the 13th.
A new seasonal route to Switzerland has also been announced. SWISS International Air Lines plans to operate the Zurich-Rijeka route from June the 29th until August the 21st, 2026, with flights scheduled on Mondays and Fridays. The route will be operated by Helvetic Airways.
wizz air is recovering following operating losses
Wizz Air reported an operating loss in line with expectations in the third quarter, after raising its capacity growth forecast earlier in the year due to additional Airbus deliveries and the return of previously grounded aircraft. The airline’s shares and profits have been under pressure due to problems with RTX-owned Pratt & Whitney engines, as well as as a result of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
“We’re gradually recovering from the engine-related groundings and in the next fiscal year we’re targeting an average of 20-25 aircraft grounded due to metal dust issues,” Chief Executive Officer Jozsef Varadi revealed in a statement.
Wizz Air’s operating loss widened to 123.9 million euros in the quarter, from 75.9 million euros a year earlier. Analysts had expected a loss of 137.95 million euros.
