A recent survey by the European Parliament has found that concern over uncontrolled immigration is significantly higher in Malta than across the rest of the European Union.
According to the survey, 81% of Maltese respondents said they are worried about uncontrolled immigration in the country, compared to an EU average of 65%, highlighting a notably stronger level of concern locally.
The findings also show that cybersecurity is a major issue for Maltese citizens. Eight in ten respondents (80%) said they are concerned about cyber-attacks on Malta originating from foreign, non-EU countries.
Other issues raised in the survey include growing unease about fake or misleading content generated through AI, hate speech, data protection, and threats to freedom of speech, reflecting wider anxieties around digital safety and information integrity.
Despite these concerns, the outlook among Maltese citizens remains largely positive. The survey found that 85% of respondents said they are optimistic about their future and that of their families, suggesting confidence and resilience even amid ongoing social, political and digital challenges.
