Neumiller’s career night Lifts JHS Girls to Upset Win; Blue Jay Boys Falter Late

JAMESTOWN (NewsDakota)- A career night for a Blue Jays freshman lifted Jamestown to an upset win over the second-ranked Mandan Braves, while the Jamestown boys fell late to the Braves in a WDA doubleheader at Jerry Meyer Arena on Friday night.

GIRLS: Jamestown 57 #2 Mandan 54 F/OT

Freshman Macy Neumiller led a comeback from twelve down to lift the Jays (7-6, 5-5 WDA) to an overtime win over the Braves.  Behind balanced scoring, Mandan (12-2, 9-2 WDA) built a 29-17 lead just before halftime, but the freshman scored 23 of her career-best 30 after halftime, and the Jamestown defense did not allow a field goal in overtime.  The Blue Jays have their first four game winning streak since winning five in a row from February 6-17, 2023.

BOYS: Mandan 78 Jamestown 70

Huge nights from Erik Van Berkom (26 points) and Griffin Gegleman (15 points) was not enough as the Braves (8-6, 5-6 WDA) used a 15-0 run to turn around a 60-55 deficit and held on for the win.  Jamestown (3-10, 1-9 WDA) led by as many as seven in the second half despite Edison Walters (ten points) being held in check for a second straight game.  Nunpa Kirkie scored twelve of his team-high sixteen after halftime.

Jamestown is back in action in WDA play with another doubleheader at home on Tuesday against St. Mary’s with coverage on the Jamestown 107.1 Sports YouTube channel beginning at around 5:30pm.
