Imphal: Thousands of people, mostly women and students, took to the streets of Imphal on Saturday, January 31, 2026, demanding the safeguarding of Manipur’s territorial integrity and the protection of indigenous people.
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a unified civil society platform dedicated to protecting the territorial integrity, cultural identity, and social harmony of Manipur, organized the rally.
Amid tight security, the march began from Tiddim Ground (Kwakeithel) on Imphal airport road and culminated in a public meeting at THAU Ground (Thangmeiband), near the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The rally passed along Tiddim Road, Keishampat Junction, Wahengbam Leikai, Nagamapal, and Khuyathong before ending at THAU Ground. The banners, festoons, and placards read: “Manipur Kanba Khongchat (Safe Manipur rally),” “We condemn India government’s double standard in peace talks,” and “Public alert rally on peace talks.”
COCOMI convenor YK Dhiren said the platform is protesting against the central government’s alleged inaction and aims to fight against “Chin-Kuki narco-terrorism.”
Responding to repeated appeals to suspend work for the day, several sections of society, including government employees, Meira Paibies, and market women, took part in the rally.
A mammoth public meeting was held at the end, calling for an end to the Indian government’s proxy war alliance with illegal immigrants in Manipur.
The rally was part of a series of demonstrations by COCOMI to protest the central government’s role in the ongoing Manipur crisis and to demand protection of the state’s integrity.
