Honolulu police say a 71-year-old man is in critical condition after a moped-car collision in Waipahu this morning.

At about 6:22 a.m., police said a woman driving a car struck the man on a moped on Waipahu Street while he was attempting to turn left into a driveway. He was thrown onto the roadway, resulting in multiple injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated the man for chest and leg injuries, and took him to an emergency room in serious condition. Police said his condition was later downgraded to critical.

The 48-year-old woman driving the car remained at the scene, and was not injured from the collision.

At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.

An investigation is ongoing.
