Hotel Equities has taken over management of Casas del XVI, the boutique luxury hotel set within Santo Domingo’s Colonial City, adding one of the Dominican Republic’s most distinctive urban properties to its growing Caribbean portfolio.
The move brings the historic hotel under the Hotel Equities Caribbean and Latin America operating platform, expanding the company’s presence in the Dominican Republic beyond traditional resort destinations. Casas del XVI is located inside the UNESCO-listed Colonial City, operating across a collection of restored 16th-century houses rather than a single hotel building.
Casas del XVI has been positioned as a heritage-led stay since its opening, with guest rooms, courtyards, and small pools spread across multiple colonial residences. The hotel sits within walking distance of landmarks including the Catedral Primada de América, Plaza España, and Calle El Conde, placing guests directly inside Santo Domingo’s oldest neighborhood.
For Hotel Equities, the addition reflects a broader push into urban and culturally significant markets across the Caribbean and Latin America. The company has been steadily building its regional footprint, focusing on both resort and city hotels that cater to leisure and experiential travel demand.
The management transition comes as Santo Domingo continues to gain attention as a destination in its own right, driven by increased airlift, a growing restaurant scene, and renewed interest in the Colonial City as a walkable, stay-in neighborhood. Boutique hotels like Casas del XVI have played a central role in that shift, offering an alternative to the country’s all-inclusive coastal model.
Casas del XVI will continue to operate as a luxury boutique hotel under Hotel Equities’ management, maintaining its multi-house layout and focus on historic preservation while integrating the company’s operational systems and regional expertise.
