Greenland ‘deal,’ NATO fallout, peace prize push: Editorial cartoons for Jan. 25, 2026

President Donald Trump, in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, demanded that Denmark hand over Greenland — and then climbed down from that demand after the U.S. stock market fell and European leaders threatened retaliation. Trump insisted there was “a framework for a deal” with the NATO secretary general but was vague about its parameters.

Phil Hands leads this week’s editorial cartoon gallery with an image of Trump using his red tie to lasso Greenland. Nick Anderson follows with his view of the European Union toasting Trump with a taco, short for “Trump always chickens out.” Joey Weatherford sees the president’s gambit as a way for Europe to put more effort into defending Greenland. Mike Luckovich likens Trump’s unreasonable demands to those of a toddler.

Cartoonists also commented on Trump’s complaints about not having been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Jack Ohman’s president throws a “Tantrump.” Bill Bramhall draws a Nobel medal around Trump’s neck with a paper bag over Alfred Nobel’s face. Luckovich draws a nuclear explosion and a witness saying, “I told you we should just give him the peace prize.”

Other topics in this week’s editorial cartoon gallery include debate over the legality of immigration enforcement raids; contempt of Congress charges against former president Bill Clinton over his connections to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein; arguments at the Supreme Court over Federal Reserve independence; and the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Cartoons were drawn by Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Joel Pett, Drew Sheneman, Scott Stantis, Dana Summers and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and Steve Breen, Mike Luckovich and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
