New USAA office to open in Chesapeake, create over 500 jobs

USAA, a leading provider of insurance for more than 14 million military members, veterans and their families, will expand its presence in Hampton Roads.

The Texas-based company, which dates back to 1922, announced Thursday that it has purchased an almost 200,000-square-foot building at 1341 Crossways Blvd. in the Greenbrier neighborhood of Chesapeake. The company would not disclose details of the transaction.

The new office space will come with the addition of more than 500 employees to USAA’s workforce over the next two years.

The new building — just a mile from USAA’s current location at 520 Independence Parkway — will undergo renovations starting this summer. It will include a cafeteria, fitness center and market. It will also have a claims technical training center with vehicles for hands-on learning.

Cox Communications currently has operations for its telecommunications company within 1341 Crossways Blvd. Margaret-Hunter Wade, Cox’s director of public affairs, said they will temporarily consolidate into the company’s administrative building on the campus and then eventually relocate to 520 Independence Parkway.

It is part of Cox’s ongoing efforts to operate as efficiently as possible and meet the needs of their customers, Wade said. The company would not respond to additional questions via email.

Christian Bove, USAA’s lead communications director, said the plan is to fully vacate from one building to the other in a phased approach beginning in March 2026.

“There are currently about 500 USAA employees assigned to our current office and they will be transitioning to the new location,” Bove said in an email.

Randy Termeer, president of USAA’s Property and Casualty Insurance Group, said in a news release the company is honored to serve the military families who call the region home.

“With the addition of 1 million new members last year, it is crucial that USAA has the space and facilities to ensure employees can continue to deliver the exceptional service members expect and deserve,” he said.
