Starbucks, the American coffee giant, is set to close its cafe in central Helsinki.

SSP Finland, the Finnish branch of the British multinational operator of food and beverage outlets, announced that the lease for the Kirjatalo location on the corner of Pohjoisesplanadi and Keskuskatu will end in March, and operations at the cafe connected to the Academic Bookstore will cease.

SSP Finland did not provide direct answers explaining why they will not renew the lease.

Starbucks launched its presence in Finland in 2012, with its first cafe opening at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

The Academic Bookstore location followed a year later. The original Starbucks was founded in Seattle, USA, back in 1971.
