For Morrissey, it’s the U.S. tour that wasn’t.
The former lead singer of The Smiths was scheduled to perform Tuesday night in St. Petersburg, Florida, but canceled the show. Morrissey already had canceled a previous date in St. Petersburg, so Tuesday’s show was supposed to be a makeup.
The singer cited an illness for the cancellation.
But this has been a trend for Morrissey over the past year. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, he’s canceled five shows this year. He’s taken the stage only twice.
Buying a ticket to a Morrissey show apparently is a 50-50 bargain. Ultimate Classic Rock reports he has canceled 49 of his past 100 shows.
He currently has one more show scheduled in the U.S., Thursday at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. He then is supposed to head to Europe for several shows beginning Feb. 13 in Denmark.
Morrissey recently announced he’s releasing a new album, “Make-Up Is a Lie,” according to New Musical Express.
The Smiths and Morrissey gained fame in the 1980s as a staple on college radio stations. The band was only active for five years but had a major impact on modern and alternative rock.
Morrissey has had a successful solo career since the breakup of The Smiths in 1987.
