In what international diplomats are already whispering will go down as “The Nobel Tantrum”, U.S. President Donald Trump has apparently decided that not getting a Nobel Peace Prize is a valid reason to change world strategy — and maybe even push for control of Greenland.

In a message reportedly sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump lamented that Norway — yes, Norway — “decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS,” and concluded that he now “no longer feel[s] an obligation to think purely of peace.”

If that wasn’t eyebrow-raising enough, he then declared:
“The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”

Analysts and world leaders were left blinking. Why?
Greenland is not Norwegian — it’s a self-governing territory of Denmark, a NATO ally.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by an independent committee in Norway, not its government.

And linking geopolitical territorial demands to a missed cultural award is… well, unprecedented.
Critics and observers couldn’t resist humor. Social media reaction ranged from toddler tantrum metaphors to memes depicting Trump as a child clutching his medal catalog while demanding his name on the list — preferably in gold.
Norwegian officials attempted decorum. Prime Minister Støre confirmed receipt of the message but gently reminded the world (and apparently its sender) that the Nobel Committee is independent. Meanwhile, Denmark reiterated that Greenland is not for sale, and European leaders called for dialogue instead of coercive hobby diplomacy.

Whether one sees it as a diplomatic blunder, an exercise in rhetorical whimsy, or simply President Trump having a public cry-for-accolade moment, one thing is clear:
This chapter of global affairs might be remembered less for its policy content and more for its resemblance to an adult throwing a temper tantrum over not being picked for the school talent show.
