Sint Maarten bird festival 2025
Sint Maarten is set to host its first large-scale Bird Fest, a weekend-long celebration of local birdlife and conservation efforts, scheduled for June 14 and 15, 2025.
Organized by the Nature Foundation Sint Maarten in collaboration with the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) and Vogelbescherming, the event aims to inspire both residents and visitors to connect more deeply with the island’s rich biodiversity and take action to protect it.
Bird Fest 2025 will feature a vibrant mix of activities for all ages, including interactive family workshops, immersive birdwatching tours, and a sunset catamaran sail offering scenic views and nature-themed fun.
All activities are centered around raising awareness about the critical role birds play in the health of Sint Maarten’s ecosystems.
“Sint Maarten is home to incredible birds,” said Gaia, Outreach Officer at the Nature Foundation. “They live and sing around us every day, we just need to learn how to know and appreciate them.”
Birds on the island are essential to maintaining environmental balance. They help spread seeds, control insect populations, support marine ecosystems, and serve as indicators of overall ecosystem health. However, increasing overdevelopment, habitat degradation, and pollution threaten their populations.
The festival builds on the momentum of other local outreach efforts, including the Migratory Bird Festival hosted annually by Les Fruits de Mer. By expanding bird-focused education into the summer months, Bird Fest provides a new opportunity for the community to engage in conservation year-round.
“By bringing residents and visitors closer to the bird life of the island, Bird Fest 2025 aims to inspire a deeper connection with nature and a shared commitment to protecting it,” said organizers via a statement.
